At around 7:30 p.m. on August 1, Julio Villazon was driving near 2nd Street at South Old Glebe Road, when he hit a pedestrian with his car, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

Police said the pedestrian, 52-year-old Viviana Lopez, was unresponsive at the scene and later died at the hospital from her injuries.

Villazon fled after he hit Lopez crossing the street, but law enforcement were able to identify him based on witness interviews, officials said.

Officials took Villzaon into custody from his home and concluded alcohol may have been a factor in the incident, authorities said.

Villazon was charged with involuntary manslaughter, hit and run, driving under the influence, and other related offenses, Arlington police said.

He was held at the Arlington County Detention Facility without bond, officials reported.
